Like most, my health, fitness and social life drastically altered (and not for the best) during, and since, COVID19. My weight increased and I barely left the couch - even for work. I knew something had to change. With my fitbit securely strapped to my wrist, I walked...and walked (my dog enjoyed and benefited immensely from this infatuation with counting steps) until the novelty soon wore off. I joined the gym, signed up to Zumba but when you get to the 'looking for excuses so as not to go' stage - its pretty much over. So my life went back to the sedentary way it was.....until...

September last year. I saw an ad on social media advertising 6 weeks of Pickleball coaching not far from my home. I signed myself up not really knowing what to expect. I came home from that first lesson exhausted, sweating profusely and aching all over. But I was hooked! I couldn't wait to go back the following week. I met some lovely friends from those first lessons and we still play socially today. Six months later and I still look forward to playing each week. I'm now a member of 2 pickleball clubs and a few social groups. I socialise more than ever. I've lost over 15lb (just over 7kg) and no longer take anti-depressant medication (which i have been taking for the last 6 years). I'm not over-exaggerating the effect Pickleball has had on me - I'm 52 and feel better than I have in years. Am I an exception? I'd really like to know.
I would recommend giving it a go. It's a fun, socialable game, open to all ages and abilities (we have an 82yr old club member) and you just never know - you may also reap the same benefits. Add your thoughts below.
